Spins From The Bins has been going since 2012 and reflects my varied taste in music, featuring anything from Classic and Progressive Rock/Metal, blues, instrumental tracks, acoustic numbers, basically anything I think will make for an interesting show. I do like to keep it varied and let the show change pace throughout.
There are always some 3 min songs but also a lot varying from 6-25 mins in length, nothing is off limits and occasionally I like to throw a complete curveball in too.
My musical epiphany came in 1978 when I first heard Deep Purple’s album Fireball, as soon as that intro started, I was hooked. AC/DC, Whitesnake, Led Zeppelin, Rush, Judas Priest, Rainbow, Iron Maiden etc soon followed. In the mid 90’s I got heavily into Dream Theatre, Symphony X, Arena, Kamelot, Vanden Plas, Mystery etc
Coming up to date the show has gradually evolved away from playing lots of older tracks, though there is always at least one or two Retro tracks in each show and instead concentrating on new releases. A lot of the music on the shows each week would not be heard on mainstream radio and I always aim to make a show full of music that I’d love to hear on the radio…
With over 400 new songs coming in directly to me each week, I try my hardest to listen through and pick a good selection of new tracks to enlighten the followers of the shows. I get a lot of messages and emails saying thank you for introducing them to so many new artists and albums each week – in my mind that makes my hobby worthwhile, and job done
