Del Garland
So, how did I get here as the Talking Heads number goes. Well, it’s all about my warped idea of fitting in with others when I was a teenager. My recollection is vague but I seem to recall that randomly finding a copy of “Last Exit” by Traffic in the road (ironic?) that had been run over by a bus started my route to rock. I took it home and to my surprise, it played, and I loved it. I then ventured out to my first gig to see Traffic at the Fairfield Halls. I felt out of place in a “tonic” suit amongst a tribe of Afghan and denim wearing longhairs. It was brilliant and the suit became history as my hair grew and my denim jeans became my look. Now, I was mistakenly thinking I was the cool one. However, turning up to parties with Quo’s “Dog Of Two Head”, Mott’s Brain Capers” and a Party 7 didn’t cut it with the trendies and frightened the girls. I didn’t care as I became hooked on rock with the regular visits to the Croydon Greyhound where I was lucky enough to see the cream of classic rock as they elevated to superstardom or fond obscurity. This was my church! Gigs and festivals with great friends were regular and still continue today. But, it always concerned me that there was not enough exposure to rock on the radio, whether classic or new. So, in 2013, I saw an ad for someone to join a local community radio station. I think my extensive music collection was the tiebreaker and I was involved with overhauling the music library. One thing led to another and I started presenting the “Rock Spectrum” show on Redstone Radio. When it folded, I moved across to SUSY FM where I have always tried to mix rock in with the standard chart and oldies stuff as well as specialist shows in rock, country and blues. However, my urge to present the best darn rocking tunes around has led me to this little cubbyhole where I intend to jog your memory alongside some of the great new music that is out there and begging to be heard.

So, young or old rockers, please join me on “Hot Rails To Hell”!
