Chris Frankum
Chris is probably the youngest presenter here at Rock radio UK, well not youngest in age but in experience as he only started pressing those buttons in October 2023. Drill past his sarcasm and wicked sense of humour and you will find a real shy person in real life! His first exposure to rock music was as a young child when he bought his first album “Down To Earth” by Rainbow which is currently on the wall, framed along with a special signed setlist from Graham Bonnet!. Always having a passion for any music, the 80s were a real mixed bag for his listening and collection, but rock was always his favourite. The 90’s and 00’s were a little light whilst working, raising a family and playing football way too much (his body is now broken LOL) but Chris still kept the collection (then CD’s) growing. It wasnt until around 2016 where Chriss passion was rekindled when listening to another station who shall remain nameless, he was instantly hooked by Inglorious on the radio. This led to Chris and his wingman Neil, attending the Ramblin Man festival that year and from that small acorn the mighty oak grew, you will now find them both at plenty of festivals and gigs all over the country - to this date stats are roughly well in excess of 200 different bands seen live, many multiple times, equating no around 500 performances - all since 2016. No wonder he is always skint! From 2019 Chris started to be heavily involved in the New Wave of Classic Rock facebook group and is now one of the current Admins to be found there (when he gets time he says!) Move on to 2023 and when Dave Cyderbaby bought Rock Radio UK, Chris was around to help in the background with the tech and bouncing ideas off and one day, for a dare, he said “Ill have a go on the radio”. The challenge was accepted and in October 2023 Chris’ radio debut was made with 1 hour of pre-recorded music from The Drunken Duck man-cave aptly named “The Drunken Duck Show”, and from then he was hooked. A second show was quickly created “The New Releases Show” to air as many new tracks as possible. Then after much pressure from Dave and Lee James, Chris decided to brave it and “go live”, so as of December 2023, The Drunken Duck Show has been airing live every Saturday evening from 7pm to 9pm featuring great music, banter and some regular fun features (tune in to find out). The DD show is also repeated on Mixcloud and Spotify. What does the future hold? Plenty of ideas are being discussed including ways to make the DD show the de-facto go-to show on Saturday evenings, and even some live broadcasts from events.
Chris says “In this crazy messed up world of today, music is my release and to sit here in the DD man-cave, playing music I love, talking rubbish, with no one moaning at me or saying turn it off, is 2 hours or pure pleasure. I must thank all my fellow presenters who have helped me on this rollercoaster of a journey with their guidance, help and comments.”
